Greetings, One & All~
Summer is sizzling here in the Sonoran Desert, so your humble narrator is especially grateful to be working on several new projects in the cool comfort of various recording studios for a spell. More on those in this July issue of your A 440 Newsletter, along with this month’s feel-good featured live event. Walk with a cool body and be in touch as spirit moves!

Dancing Hearts
Fresh new beats abound around Heart Dance Records these days, where yours truly is adding pan-global drums and percussion to the ethereal yet earthy and hook-heavy compositions of multi-instrumentalist Cass Anawaty for a new HDR trio project, the crème de la crème to be applied by New Age flute goddess Sherry Finzer. The plan for this project is to record, mix and master songs in batches of four and release them as digital EP’s, to be followed by the full-length CD. Be still, my beating heart!
Feelin’ Groovy
What a perfect time and place to play for unity, inclusiveness and progress, and what perfect music for the moment! The R. Carlos Nakai Trio will bring its genre-transcending sound to the Feel Good Festival in Atlanta GA on Sunday July 18th.

Completely Bare
Meanwhile, back in The Old Pueblo, Amo and Will have been re-recording new versions of the RC3 Feel Good set list at CBS (Amo’s Completely Bare Studio, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Amosphere) for RC to work with at Aspen Camp, his ancestral summer hideaway among the aspens on the Uncompahgre Plateau of southwestern Colorado, so that when we triangulate in Hot ‘Lanta the tunes will be tight. Música sin fronteras!

Canyon Gold
Just when you thought they’d sailed off into the sunset with their collective treasure trove of GRAMMY-nominated Canyon Records albums, here come The Wilde Boys back over the horizon with a brand new offering of Southwestern sonic synergy. Re-dubbed The Golden Boys (unofficially by me) R. Carlos Nakai, William Eaton & Will Clipman will be back in the Canyon Studio in October to lay master tracks for their fifth trio collaboration, built on rhythmic concepts created by Will at the Boom Boom Room in Tucson, and harmonic structures conjured up by William at Wisdom Tree Studio in Sedona. Did someone say música sin fronteras?!
Yep, that’s the real Kremlin, on the real Red Square. World peace through music!
Crystal & Clay
Moving from recording, mixing and mastering to post-production promotion, we’ve proffered a two-song demo for the new Tryshe Dhevney & Will Clipman album Crystal & Clay to the legendary White Swan Records label for consideration by invitation. There are never any guarantees in the music business, but do stay tuned for further word on this profoundly peaceful and healing crystal bowl-and-udu soundscape.
Mood Indigo
And over at Rob’s Midtown Music Loft, the Indigo Social Club continues its quest for acoustic world-jazz fusion beyond the known boundaries of contemporary instrumental music, as we audio and video record various recombinants of Rob Paulus on upright bass and violin, Marshall Jones on guitar, Cantrell Maryott on vocals and yours truly on pan-global drums and percussion. One more time, can I get a música sin fronteras?!
Photos of the Month
Some days it’s just too hot to hunt. Either this is an exceptionally fearless Harris squirrel chillin’ in wet dirt, or it knows intuitively that the molting juvenile Cooper’s hawk perched above it is just cooling its tail feathers poolside and is NOT in predator mode. Wild life!
And as a delectable dessert to a desert deluge of desperately-needed rain, a recent monsoon thunderstorm opened this portal to a world of light, peace and reflection at the end of a long, hot summer day: the sun setting over the Tucson Mountains and beaming a golden ray into our sacred pool. Ahhhhh, so!
Poem of the Month
Free Will
Pain is my friend.
Pain illuminates the way forward.
Pain will not defeat me.
I will not complain.
I will choose the hour and the manner of my going,
but not before my work is done.
