Greetings, One & All~

I trust this finds everyone well-rested and re-invigorated following a long and relatively labor-free Labor Day holiday–unless, like your humble narrator, your passion is your work; in which case it’s all a Labor of Love! I have a slammin’ September slated and I’d love to see most if not all of you at one or more of the following special events:

On Tour with the Wilde Boys

In early September I’ll embark on a Rocky Mountain High Tour with the legendary Wilde Boys (R. Carlos Nakai, William Eaton & Will Clipman) including shows at:

Myths & Masks Master Class

On Saturday & Sunday September 27th & 28th from 9 AM-3 PM each day, I’ll return to the Kiva Room at Western National Parks Association in Oro Valley AZ to conduct a Myths & Masks master class. Limited to twelve participants, this life-transforming workshop empowers each individual to create a wearable mask and compose an Inner Mythic Persona Poem in the voice of the masked character. Participants are invited and encouraged (but not required!) to perform their work in an informal Circle of Celebration at the conclusion of the workshop; AND each participant will receive a FREE Myths & Masks DVD with pre-registration!

Poem of the Month

I dare not forget this feature: it’s become the single most-commented-on item in my A 440 Newsletter! The September Poem of the Month delves into geological time to unearth a root cause of the collective chaos and craziness in the modern world: our refusal to recognize our own individual inner madness. I offer it in the hope that by coming to terms with our own human frailty–and our own divinity–each of us can make a difference one day at a time in healing the fractures among Planet Earthlings.

Walls Within Stones

Now is the time

for all good stones

to divide and divide

so that we

might see their secrets.

But this is not possible,

for at each vivisection

the stones present us

with yet another set of walls.

We could scale them,

tunnel under or blast through

or deface them with all the graffiti

our brains have labored eons to produce,

but we will never learn their silent art.

So now

good stones

divide and divide.

You have nothing to fear from us

who have lived among you

these many moons

oblivious to the rise and fall

of your terrible breath,

blind to the warm patterns of blood

along your raw faces.

Your secrets are safe from us

who

faced with what we don’t know

can do no better

than conjure images in our own likeness

as we gnaw bones by failing firelight,

and become what we had hoped

to save ourselves from.

~May your autumnal equinox be blessed with balance
and may we all be instruments of peace~

One’s destiny is fulfilled not by a single dramatic deed but by showing up where one is most needed and making a difference one day at a time.
